Classifica Giro di Romandia 2022, 1a tappa: Rohan Dennis in vetta, 18° Damiano Caruso
Si è cominciato a fare sul serio. Dopo il prologo con la prova a cronometro che ha segnato l’esordio del Giro di Romandia 2022, è andata in scena la seconda tappa: i corridori hanno dovuto affrontare 178 chilometri con partenza da La Grande Beroche e arrivo presso Romont.
Una stage che ha previsto un inizio relativamente tranquillo per poco più di 30 chilometri salvo poi incontrare il primo GPM di giornata (quattro previsti, tutti di terza categoria) presso Suchy. Da qui, il gruppo ha fatto i conti con una serie di saliscendi (3000 metri di dislivello) per raggiungere Esmonts (secondo GPM) e, infine, attraversare due volte un circuito con protagonista il GPM di Massonnens. In questo contesto, i chilometri finali sono stati particolarmente impegnativi.
La vittoria è andata al trionfatore della Freccia Vallone 2022, Dylan Teuns. Il belga della Bahrain – Victorius, grazie a un finale al cardiopalma, è riuscito a rimontare praticamente sulla linea del traguardo l’australiano Rohan Dennis (Jumbo-Visma) che sembrava destinato al successo di tappa. In terza posizione troviamo il padrone di casa, Marc Hirschi (UAE Team Emirates) a 2″. Buona la prestazione di Damiano Caruso (Bahrain – Victorious), che ha chiuso in settima posizione. Questo si traduce in classifica generale con la vetta di Dennis a precedere di 16″ l’australica Groeschartner (BORA – hansgrohe) e il britannico Geraint Thomas (INEOS Grenadiers). 18° Caruso a 28″.
